Movement awards 10K grants to 6 nonprofit organizations

Movement Mortgage, a top 10 national retail mortgage lender, is excited to announce that six nonprofit organizations across the country have each been given $10,000 grants from the Movement Foundation.

These organizations help the homeless, children in need, teen moms and kids with illnesses and disabilities and were nominated by Movement team members.

"We are honored to come alongside these important organizations that mean so much to our team members at Movement Mortgage," says CEO Casey Crawford. "In doing a small part to help these organizations make a difference in their community, we will continue to be a Movement of Change in our Industry, Corporate Cultures and Communities."

The organizations receiving grants are:

• Sleep in Heavenly Peace – NC
• Against All Odds Empowerment Center
• Acres of Hope
• P.I.N. People in Need
• Camp Rise Above
• Christian Services

Sleep in Heavenly Peace, the North Carolina chapter, was nominated by Daniil Grinchak in Accounting. All of the money from the grant will go to making bunk beds for kids in need. The $10,000 will become 60 bes for needy kids.

Against All Odds Empowerment Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, was nominated by Jericho Kinyanjui, a processor in the Tempe Sales Support Center. This organization helps teen moms become self sufficient. They are going to use the money to help bring a new counselor on staff.

"This organization comes along those girls and helps them finish school," Kinyanjui says. "It helps them prevent additional pregnancies. It helps them get out of abusive relationships. It helps them learn how to love themselves."

Acres of Hope, in Auburn, California, was nominated by Candice Davis, a branch manager in northern California. This organization aims to break the cycle of homelessness by offering life-skills training, job skills, mentoring and spiritual direction for women and their children.

"They come here and they work on renewal and reunification with their children," said Lisa Risdal, executive director of Acres of Hope. "The come in completely broken, feeling unloved and unworthy and they feel like a blight on this community. By the time they graduate, they are amazing, strong, independent women. They are working full time and they are loving and nurturing moms."

The organization will use the grant to help expand its cooking facilities so it can help more families.

P.I.N. People in Need was nominated by Bobby Geurtsen, Compliance manager in the Norfolk Sales Support Center. This organization helps the homeless or extremely poor people by providing food, clothing, shelter and medical care.

"This is an actual way to give back to the community,"  Geurtsen says of P.I.N's Changemakers program. "It pulls people off the streets and give them a second chance at life."

Camp Rise Above in Charleston, South Carolina, was nominated by Loan Officer Michael Wade. Camp Rise Above is a unique nonprofit organization that provides life changing camp experiences to children with serious illnesses, life challenges, and disabilities. Their belief is that all children deserve to experience the magic of childhood, regardless of medical status.

The organization offers summer day camps to serve various groups of children, along with hospital day camps and family fun days. The ultimate dream is to have a permanent camp where children can go to experience a full camp experience.

Christian Services in Rock HIll, South Carolina, was nominated by Loan Officer Ed Butler. This organization assists families escape poverty. It provides employment skills, a food pantry and more.
